Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I find a specific car?
This website allows you to search through a database of cars with a 4 or 5 star safety rating that are approved for P platers to drive by VicRoads. This helps to ensure you are getting a cool, safe car, in your budget. If you would like to see a full list of vehicles, safety ratings and safety features from 1990 to the present day visit howsafeisyourcar.com.au
What are UCSR and ANCAP?
The ANCAP has a limited budget to conduct crash tests. The program aims to test the most popular vehicles and the most popular model of that vehicle (usually the base model).
UCSR are based on analysis of real world crashes. To receive a UCSR car models must be at least 2 years old, and have been involved in enough crashes to provide a statistically reliable rating. Low volume selling cars are unlikely to be rated.
Many models, particularly sports and imported cars, are not covered as the number of people that would benefit from the assessment on these vehicles would be extremely limited. Crash tests that are undertaken by ANCAP or by EuroNCAP that are applicable for Australia will be added to the site as soon as possible. UCSR are updated annually. How did you work out the price range for the cars?
Pricing information on howsafeisyourfirstcar.com.au is provided by Redbook.com.au. This data is sorted by the average price in the range to determine what category it will fall in.
The Private Price Guide represents what you may expect to buy or sell this vehicle for privately. It may vary to a dealer's retail price because the dealer prepares the vehicle more thoroughly, both mechanically and aesthetically, and provides a consumer warranty.
